Well crap my very old mac pro has died

The power supply, that is.

Replace power supply for $200
Get a whole spare machine, maybe even upgraded processors $250-300
Get a trash can mac pro for about $350 (would be kind of cool, will run the old games)

I keep this one around for photoshop, and 32 bit games. It's 26 years old.

The other options is goon out on a new MBP or Mac mini, and give up the 32 bit games sadwave

I was already shopping for ne mini, and they have the next gen laptops coming out next week.

This old machine has served me well but is facing diminishing returns

Yeah, I'm looking to replace my ten year old 27" imac.  Apple won't even let me upgrade the OS and I'm starting to see software that I can't install the newer versions.  sadbanana

OTOH,  my first PC was a TI-99/4A and since then this was the first time I used one longer than five years.  rockon

If there is a computer recycler near you, you might be able to get an old power supply from them.

Edit: didn't see that last response. Good, I hope it works.

This one is/was a workhorse. on 24/7 for 25 years lol
There's software that will help you install newer OS on later macs, mine is too old to benefit from that.  Ask gemini and it will walk you through it.

I have power supplies around, but this one is form fitted and has a custom connector.

or you could use OpenCore Legacy Patcher and install macos 26 on it... but the experience would not be good at all.
