anon user #3Single family homes are best for the young who are seeking to start families. Boomers shouldn't be hoarding single family homes. Young people starting out need help so reduce the price for SFHs and also eliminate the property taxes.
This also helps the elderly because they can go to assisted living apartments or condos instead. They just don't belong in large homes which need a lot of care.

Honestly, why are we taxing seniors so much?

anon user #3I mean, what next then? Is it going to trend that when they die Boomers make the house their grave and it just sits empty with their body rotting within? It's quite ridiculous.
If you are 80 years old, let's be honest. Unless you are in great shape, It's time for you go to an assisted living faculty or something because eventually you are going to start falling down or getting dementia.

I disagree.
Young single people don't need big houses.
And we shouldn't reward mudsharking single moms with mulatto bastard kids.
Here's a better idea:
1) Impose a national property tax of 1%.
2) All homeowners have to pay the national property tax, EXCEPT married heterosexual couples who are using the home as their primary residence (widows are also exempt, since it's not their fault their spouse died).
This will make encourage people to get married, stay married, and make homes more affordable to people who want to get married and raise kids.
Everyone else (private equity buyers, foreign investors, AirBNB vulture buyers, rich assholes buying 10 vacation homes, etc) will have to pay the national property tax.

If you're in a HCoL area, expect to pay at least $10,000/month for a 200 sf studio in a good assisted living facility. Enough room for a twin bed, desk, and sink. Outside your door will be a shared kitchen, dining area, lounge.
But it's worth it. You do NOT want a low-end assisted living facility, where you'll be helplessly soaking in your own urine & feces, while laughing nogs beat you to death.

The best way is actually for the elderly to live with their adult children.
That's how humans advanced for 200,000 years.

We've seen how those condos collapse. No boomer will buy into a condo, given the deferred maintenance costs & new regulations on HOAs.
You want to see how your housing scheme will work? Go to Cuber.

Want to make housing affordable? Throw the guest workers out. Throw the illegals out.
Any national property tax will only inch skyward.

The untidy fact is that it's the adult kids who historically lived with the parents.

Zero property taxes, unless there is an ongoing mortgage. After that you are exposed to local upkeep and school zone taxes. No kids no tax, low crime area, low tax, low fire risk, low taxes.
So you pay for what you get.
