Holy fuq, how stupid are you?  Carney disclosed exactly why talks broke down… here are two of the keys:

1).  the U.S. wanted total control over Canadian trade policy, they would not have been allowed to sign new trade deals with any other countries

2).  The U.S. wanted to dump unlimited amounts of US taxpayer subsidized dairy and farm products on the Canadian market, wiping out their agriculture the way U.S. taxpayer subsidized corn wiped out Mexican farmers after NAFTA
