But today, no drug company will supply the drugs for an execution, and no doctor will supervise it. So you get people who have

However, this botch job is going ot insure that her family will be well compensated.

We shouldn't have the death penalty at all. I know, some crimes are horrible and some people should never be
let back into society. We have the technology to keep them behind bars forever.

Her family is going to be filthy rich.

The dogs would develop a taste for human blood.

They should inquire if they want to commit suicide, a lot of them probably do and woud do so electivly in a self initiated procedure.

Nevermind. I found out. If she continues to 'live', the state is probably on the hook for her indefinite 'care'. Fuq.

Christa Pike, the convicted murderer who survived a botched execution attempt last week, may never fully recover, her lawyers revealed, as she remains unconscious in a heavily guarded hospital room.

Pike, the first woman to be put to death by Tennessee in over 200 years, has been hooked up to a ventilator since last Wednesday after shockingly surviving two rounds of a lethal injection she was sentenced to for the sadistic 1995 murder of her classmate.

She is the first death row inmate to survive a successful injection of pentobarbital — which had left her snoring and unconscious but still breathing while strapped to a gurney at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution death chamber on Wednesday night.

“We don’t know right now, and we may never know, what sort of torture she endured during that process,” one of Pike’s lawyers, Stephen Ferrell, told Jake Tapper on CNN Sunday.

While Pike, 50, dodged death, her condition is still not much better, having failed to regain consciousness or say anything since the attempted execution.

She remains “critically ill,” Ferrell said. “We don’t really know the prognosis yet and may not know for several days.”

“It remains to be seen what the future is,” he continued. “I think one of the main things that will leave this up in the air for a while is the fact that we don’t know what the prognosis is — as in, the long-term prognosis. If she recovers — she may not fully recover.”

“And there may be issues about her competence. We just don’t know any of this,” the attorney said.

Pike’s legal team has been unable to see her as she languishes in the hospital, where she is “guarded,” he added.

Fallout from the botched killing led to the resignation of the state’s prison chief Frank Strada, and even received comment from President Donald Trump, who was baffled at the failed execution.

Pike was sentenced to death in 1996 for the brutal murder of her 19-year-old classmate Colleen Slemmer in a jealous rage.

Ferrell has requested that Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee commute Pike’s sentence to life in prison in light of the failed execution.

Unless Pike fully recovers, it’s unlikely the state will try to execute her again, according to legal experts.

“She can’t be executed if she is brain injured and doesn’t understand the proceedings,” Professor Deborah Denno of the Fordham School of Law told The Post.

“The United States Supreme Court recognized in a case involving a dementia patient in 2019 that you can’t execute someone who’s not aware of the punishment that they’re going to receive.”

Re: Tennessee Fails to Execute Woman After 2 Doses of Lethal Injection Christa Pike was convicted of murdering a classmate in 1995. It was not clear what went wrong in the e

Christa Pike asked “where am I?” when she woke up from a botched execution attempt, which left her suffering from a blood clot in her arm, pneumonia and not being able to eat, her lawyer said.

Pike, 50, was set to become the first woman executed in Tennessee in over 200 years on September 30 — but instead became the first prisoner ever to survive a lethal injection in the US.

Her first words when she woke up on Tuesday were “Where am I and who are you?” before asking about her victim Colleen Slemmer’s family, her attorney, Randy Spivey, told a press conference Wednesday.

Pike was sentenced to death for brutally torturing and killing her 19-year-old classmate Slemmer in a jealous rage in Jan. 1995, when she was 18.

She was rushed to hospital after receiving two doses of lethal injection drug pentobarbital at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville last week and was initially said to be unconscious and in a critical condition.

“Christa has a long road to recovery,” Spivey said. “She has a blood clot in one of her arms, she has pneumonia. She is not able to swallow yet, so she has not eaten.”

Spivey said that Pike also suffered “extraordinary” swelling to her hands, adding that they “looked like if you were to blow up a surgical glove.”

The lawyer revealed that on Monday night her legal team had been told Pike was brain dead and life support would be removed the following day. wtf2

“But on Tuesday, to the shock of everyone, including me, including her team and including the medical team, Christa woke up and began talking,” he said. eek

“I do not have an explanation for what happened between Monday night and Tuesday morning.”

Dr. Joel Zivot, an anesthesiologist who has advised Pike’s lawyers, earlier told the BBC that Pike “has some memories of being in the hospital but no memory, I believe, of the execution attempt.”

Zivot added that Pike could recall her name, is able to communicate in a “basic way” and made an incorrect guess at the date, believing that it was still September.

Spivey spoke outside Davidson County Chancery Court after Pike’s legal team appeared to argue for an emergency motion requiring the Tennessee Department of Correction to preserve all evidence related to the bungled execution.

Judge I’Ashea Myles afro granted the motion, adding, “This case is unique to say the least.”

The judge said that anything that was in the death chamber “needs to be preserved and maintained,” in addition to surveillance footage or any videos, handwritten notes, witness accounts and encrypted communications.

Tennessee Assistant Attorney General Will Ayers told the court that there is currently no pending execution order for Pike and said “I can’t answer that question” when asked by the judge if capital punishment would be rescheduled.

Another one of Pike’s lawyers, Luke Ihnen, told the hearing “the state has made no promises that Ms. Pike will not be subject to future execution” and added that they were seeking that evidence be preserved because it would be “relevant for any future challenge she makes.”

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee halted all remaining executions this year and ordered an independent review in the wake of the fiasco.

Pike’s legal team has pleaded that the governor commute her sentence, saying she has “endured punishment greater than any other person in the history of the American death penalty.” lol
