Charlie Kirk is the modern day Horst Wessel

For those that don't know Horst Wessel was a Brown shirt who died after he led attacks on communists in 1930s Germany and was lionised by the Nazis in the Horst Wessel Lied (nazi co anthem).

Everyone keeps comparing Charlie Kirk to Horst Wessel.
But that’s not quite right. Wessel was a foot soldier, a violent street thug the Nazis mythologized into sainthood.
Kirk wasn’t that. He was a bureaucrat of fascism. A courtier.
If you want the real historical parallel, it’s Ernst vom Rath. 1/

In November 1938, a 17-year-old Polish Jew named Herschel Grynszpan walked into the German embassy in Paris and shot Ernst vom Rath twice in the stomach.
He was desperate. This wasn’t an assassination so much as a cry from the edge.
His parents had just been deported to a freezing border camp.
He had no country. No power. No future.
So he pulled the trigger. 2/

Vom Rath died two days later. And the Nazis pounced.
They seized on the moment like a gift from God.
They called it a Jewish plot.
They staged massive rallies.
And within hours, Kristallnacht was underway.
The death of a minor diplomat became the pretext for one of the largest pogroms in modern history. 3/

But here’s the part that rarely gets told.
The Nazis planned to put Grynszpan on trial, make it a global spectacle.
They thought it would be perfect propaganda.
A Jewish boy murders a loyal German servant.
But then they started digging. And what they found terrified them. 4/

Grynszpan and vom Rath were lovers.
That was the rumor, and the evidence was too loud to ignore.
French police records. Personal letters. Press leaks.
The Nazi regime, desperate to protect its “purity” myth, suddenly canceled the trial.
They couldn’t afford to have a gay Nazi martyr on the world stage. 5/

So they erased him. Silenced the story.
Moved him into the camps, where he disappeared. The facts no longer mattered. The truth didn’t serve the script.
But still, when his death was finally entered into the record,
it bore a date etched in history. May 8, 1945.
The day the Reich fell. The day the camps were liberated. That’s the date they gave him.
That’s how you write a ghost back into the story. 6/

That’s what Charlie Kirk is now.
Not a Horst Wessel street hero. But a vom Rath figure, lesser-known, more sanitized.
His life wasn’t mythic. But his death is being sharpened into a weapon by the people who need one.
The truth won’t matter. Only what can be done with the story. 7/

They’re already doing it.
Using his death to target trans people. Leftists. Artists. Comedians. Democrats. Critics.
They’re invoking martyrdom, demanding blood, invoking the language of war. The machinery is in motion. And just like 1938, the facts are beside the point. 8/

I’m not saying we’re in Nazi Germany.
But I am saying: when fascist movements lose a foot soldier, they tell the story that helps them most. And in that story, the dead don’t have to resemble who they were. They just have to be useful. 9/

Charlie Kirk isn’t Horst Wessel.
He’s Ernst vom Rath.
And the question was never what happened,
it was what the machine could do with the body.
How far the myth could stretch.
How fast the fire could spread. 10/10
