After considering the more expensive options, I opted for this $29 doller soldering station

Can't miss it on the desk, and seems to work well.  My main issues were a place to set a hot iron and temperature control.  It’s lightweight, no heavy transformer in there, but the rubber feet keep it from skating around.

SamplesBoi as a dot. Two spaces after a period is a dead giveaway.

No, I just proofread my posts when I remember to, and it applies the now-ancient double-space formatting.

The controls are pretty shytty though. It looks like it has 4 presets, but those are just menu options for working, sleep, temp format, and reset. I had it set for 384° as the solder roll I had, and it needed 40-50 more watts to get a good melt. Higher quality units have a calibration port or that heavy transformer.

This, like most appliances that can malfunction and cause a fire, are unplugged when not in use.

You: 200 amps online 24/7

Me: Less than that! :taz:

I have a long-standing habit of always unplugging soldering gear. You should too.

I can solder and I can weld, my daddy taught me how. Sometimes when a welder is unavailable I weld things on my rig. My daddy had his own welding business. I still have his old truck with welding rig.

My dad was a welder too.  But he didn't teach me anything about welding.  I know how to solder a bit, though.

Yes, it's a handy tool and skill for sure.  A desoldering iron too but that takes a bit more skill.
