Poul Thorsen, 65, pleaded guilty Monday to wire fraud in federal court in Atlanta, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Georgia.
Between 2000 and 2009, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention awarded more than $11 million to two Danish government agencies. The grants supported studies involving autism and vaccines, cerebral palsy and infections during pregnancy, and childhood development and fetal alcohol exposure.
Thorsen became responsible for overseeing the money in 2002. Prosecutors said he later submitted more than a dozen fraudulent invoices bearing the forged signature of a CDC official
