Medicare and Social Security alone are $2.9 trillion dollars a year, 36% of the total Federal budget.  Next up are interest and defense, each 14% (and growing rapidly).

Welfare, EBT and those types of programs are all lumped into the 14% of the budget called “discretionary spending” which also includes education, NASA, National Parks, roads and pretty much everything else that actually. Benefits society.

Sorry, no… I’m opposed to Social Security and Medicare.  In addition to much of the spending going to people who don’t need it, these two massive expensive bureaucracies needlessly duplicate welfare and Medicaid which already provide the same services, albeit means tested and not quite so gold plated.

If you are poor and cannot for some reason work, welfare and Medicaid should be the only options, for people of any age.
