I bet those smoke detectors were just battery powered stick on jobs.
Very low tech, unreliable.
You should have installed hard-wired, battery back-up units for safety.

Purpleair.com shows some pretty unhealthy smoke and particulate levels in Boise, you’d best stay indoors.
