The main academic anchor is Levin and van Berlo, 2004, in the Journal of Clinical Forensic Medicine: "Sexual arousal and orgasm in subjects who experience forced or non-consensual sexual stimulation - a review." They go through case reports and clinical material showing genital lubrication, erection of the clitoris, and full orgasm can show up under force. The body runs the script. Spinal reflexes, pelvic blood flow, autonomic wiring. The same hardware that fires when she actually wants it can fire when she does not. Levin's whole point, dry as a coroner's report, is that defense lawyers love this fact and courts keep letting them use it like a club.

You will not get a clean global census with perfect sampling. Sexual assault research is a nightmare of underreporting, shame, and people who never want to fill out a survey about the worst night of their lives. What you get is clinical series, forensic reviews, and victim interviews where a minority admit the body finished. Secondary writeups compress that mess into "about 5%." Other pockets of the literature talk higher or lower depending on who they asked and how drunk or threatened the sample was. The floor is not zero. That is the part that matters.

Orgasm is not a signed waiver. It is a circuit. Evolution built that circuit to breed under a lot of conditions, including conditions that would make a modern ethics committee wet themselves for different reasons.

And yet. The shame layer is real. Victims who orgasm during rape often report extra disgust, extra confusion, extra silence, because some lizard part of the culture still whispers that climax means she was complicit. Levin and van Berlo flag exactly that courtroom and bedroom weaponization. The five percent who finish get treated like they failed a purity test. The ninety-five who do not get to keep the simpler story. Everyone else debates semantics while the autonomic nervous system does what it has always done: respond to friction, pressure, threat hormones, and luck.

Call them whores if that is the only framework you own. Plenty of men do. It is a cheap way to sleep at night. The papers do not care about your sleep. They care about a pelvic floor that can climax under a knife or a fist or a roommate who would not take no. Consent lives in the head and the mouth and the ability to leave. It does not live in whether her qunt betrayed her on the stopwatch.

So the number is real enough to keep showing up in forensic reviews. The mechanism is boring physiology, not secret female conspiracy. The people who convert "she orgasmed" into "she wanted it" are doing the oldest copium in the book: outsourcing their moral paperwork to someone else's involuntary twitch. Read Levin. Read Chivers. Then decide whether you are arguing about justice or just angry that the body is a traitor with better reflexes than your ethics.
