As predicted,Trump’s China export ban will end up killing global AI chip sales for NVIDIA and AMD

Shyt-Gibbon prohibited sales of high end NVIDIA and AMD chips to China, and just as they did with telecomm hardware, etc. China went ahead and developed their own less expensive alternatives.  They now have a closed domestic market to perfect their offerings and scale up and in a year or two will be ready to swamp the global market with an equal or better solution at half the price.

The new names of global AI chip dominance will be Huawei, Hygon and Cambricon.  Competition leads to excellence, lack of competition always leads to stagnation and decay.

The next generation of fabs will cost $50B and China doesn't have access to that hardware.  I predict that this will turn out like the Chinese ghost cities.

Fail.

China has already innovated past the U.S. blocking sales of Dutch equipment to China:  3D stacking for greater speed and efficiency rather than spending a fortune on ever-smaller manufacturing nodes.
