Why would you retire rather than just white knuckle it for as long as possible and take a big juicy buyout?

I retired at 55.
Left at my peak right at the completion of a major project.
Left behind extensive notes on the next steps.

Three weeks later they had me back in for 2 weeks (at my very high price) to do the work.

People discard at age 55 probably never had any talent or work ethic to begin with but lasted that long by hiding in the “team” crowd.
