I'm happy to hear that you are saving money.

Still disgusted that you are giving money to Elon (in two ways now).

Re: Hey OLG, Today I Gave ChatGPT Full Access To All Of My Online Financial Accounts. Good News!!

I don’t want to brag, but I have reached the level of financial sophistication where I now pay off credit cards right before the 0% promo expires, which is basically what Warren Buffett would do if he needed a new subwoofer.

People ask me, “How did you get so financially disciplined?”

Simple.

First, I stopped paying extra on my 2.625% mortgage because apparently money has “opportunity cost,” which is a phrase I now use even though I’m still not totally sure it isn’t a type of mutual fund.

Second, I maintain a careful cash reserve for emergencies, home systems, and unexpected repairs. This is very important because when you own a house, “unexpected repair” means either a $17 part from Home Depot or a man named Rick saying the words “your condenser is original.”

Third, I have a strategic plan for my 0% credit-card balances. Some people call this debt. I call it “temporary liquidity optimization,” which sounds much better and is why I should probably be CFO of something.

Fourth, I am monitoring my home equity ARM reset like a hawk. Not because it is urgent. Just because I now know what a 45-day Treasury lookback is and I need somewhere to put that knowledge or it will hurt me.

Fifth, I have accepted that “spend nothing on hobbies” is not a real budget. That is just lying to yourself with extra steps. A real budget says, “Yes, I may need headphones, 3D-printer filament, and a tool that solves a problem I invented yesterday.”

So yes, I am doing very well financially.

Not “private island” well.

More like “I have a spreadsheet explaining why buying the expensive thing was actually conservative” well.

Please respect my journey.
