Google AI has interesting information sometimes

AI Overview

The odds of a Black inmate surviving 20 years in a Texas prison primarily depend on their age at incarceration. While demographic data indicates Black men in Texas have an average baseline life expectancy of 72.4 years, the severe physical toll of long-term incarceration shortens life expectancy significantly.

The math and realities behind these odds are outlined below:

Demographic and carceral research shows that each year spent in prison reduces overall life expectancy by roughly two years due to prolonged stress, diet, and healthcare limitations.

Mortality and Survival Factors

General Rates: In-custody mortality is a small fraction of the prison population. Across state prisons, the average annual death rate is roughly 1.4 per 1,000 incarcerated individuals, typically stemming from pre-existing illnesses and natural causes.

TL;DR

Black people age 2 years for every year in prison so Karmelo Anthony's lifespan should have been reduced to 62 years old

So 20y/o going in for approx 20 years means 2/3rd of his life is effectively over

Re: Google AI has interesting information sometimes

Realistically, he will be a 40-45 year old coming out of prison with no job or life skills and on parole.

What are the odds of him becoming successful?

Having children? If he has kids, he likely wont even live long enough to see them turn 18?

So, he gets out and finds one of the very few available jobs, likely detailing cars... which pays just enough to pay his parole costs...

His life is effectively over already.

He'll be out in 7-15.

17.5 before he even becomes eligible for parole.

Only 33.5% of inmates in Texas get their first parole.
