My approach to moderation is to always start with the lowest possible penalty to resolve the issue.
I only escalate when the original penalty was not enough to dissuade additional bad behavior.
With this particular user:
- Issued warnings - repeatedly
- Deleted individual posts - repeatedly
- Short bans - repeatedly
- Longer bans - repeatedly
- Moniker revocation
- Super bans - repeatedly
And, finally, today the user had their entire posting history deleted.
I always prefer that users control themselves so that I don't have to control them on their behalf. But sometimes they just can't.
