35 Values from the 1950s We Should Bring Back - Spanky, take note

5. Humility

This is one that I have no disagreement with. It is always best to be humble. Like me.

4. Sacrifice for Future Generations

Another one I agree with, but it is baggers who have fought against this in every way possible. The most obvious example is their total disregard for the environment.

3. Gratitude for Ordinary Life

No. That's idiotic. Life is hard, not easy, challenging, and full of suffering for every single human that has ever lived. You should be angry that you are alive and do everything you can to try and make your life more comfortable. Never be satisfied with any discomfort. You didn't ask to be here. Why should you suffer for the selfish decisions of your ancestors?

2. Treating People With Basic Courtesy

Like not separating families at the border? Like not being racist?

1. Putting Character Above Attention

People have far more character today than in the 1950s.

They reunite on their side of the border.

Most whites don't go around calling black people the N word freely or referring to them as "boy."

There is a greater understanding that people are different and that many things once seen as "right" or "wrong" are merely a matter of personal preference and those differences are now respected and tolerated much more.

There is a much greater sense now that you can't treat people poorly like you once did. Class structures have been torn down. The lowest class workers are treated with more dignity and more respect.

Getting away with things because you hold a certain station in life (privilege) is much less common now. Still a problem, but you largely have to get by on your personal character and actions as opposed to being given special treatment.

The subjective idea of "character" has been replaced with objective measures like credit scores, test scores, and documented history.

Etc. Etc. Etc.

There are more consequences.  Besides, most of the world wasn't the JIM crow south. Stop watching so much TV.

WTF are you talking about?  Look up character.

That hasn't changed.

Look at all the politicians and celebrities with such an overwhelming sense of entitlement.
Look at all these bratty kids with an overblown sense of entitlement.

Which proves me right.

I would hate having your narrow world view, inability to reflect on yourself, and total lack of theory of mind.

And I have even touched on your terrible personality.

Narrow world view? Oh, teh irony.

Yeah. That’s a sacrifice I don’t personally care about. I am not perfect. But I certainly care far more about future generations than baggers. And I am willing to sacrifice for it. I’ve called for my taxes to be raised many times over the years.
