You tell me, it's Golden Corral. It's basically a combination of the two but mostly they just take your empty plates and don't really provide service. Both men and women do this job, this time it was a Hispanic guy but with very good English IMHO, but I doubt he was born here. Pay up front and you are responsible for picking what you want to eat.

@ $2 a customer they are probably making over $20/hr between wages and tips. Much of it tax free (MAGA
)
That said, you're not exactly tipping like Sinarta

SockpuppetAre you lonely or just an introvert?
You clearly are not disabled. Presumably you aren’t hideous looking, but I suppose that is possible.
I am just curious why you don’t have a partner. And what about friends?
The idea of a 55yo man dining alone at Golden Corral seems mildly sad to me.
Not that I am overly social. I do well on my own. But I would be lonely without my wife I am pretty sure. But, on the other hand, I am somewhat disabled by my weight so maybe not being able to go eat at Golden Corral alone would add to my loneliness in such a situation.
Really not knocking you or trying to be a dick if it seems that way. More curious about you than anything. I feel we’d probably be friends IRL.

They make a nice breakfast and I didn't want to have to do it myself today.
I don't think I would do that at a sit-down restaurant. Buffets are very casual. And they have unlimited bacon and OJ.
I have friends. They have kids and wives so I can't ask them out for breakfast. I had dinner with one of them last week on Friday prior to seeing his kid knock the shyt out of a different high school's varsity team at volleyball. I'm arranging a short road trip with another friend for later this year. I have a concert planned with a friend at World Music Theatre too in July. I do things with them but they all have kids.
I think the greatest problem I have ever had is that I have unrealistically high expectations for female partners and a fairly modest budget. I'm not great at compromising on that subject. I've had a few good ones but they never went to marriage. Now that I am 55 I am fairly well resigned it won't happen because my expectations don't allow for many 50+ year olds, though there are some I will admit, but they are almost all married.
Plus, I get unlimited socialization at work 40 hours a week with all the incumbent meetings and shyt.
I appear to average people as well socialized, friendly, and somewhat jocular. I'm well spoken compared to most people. I hide my dark side and expose it here.

They make a fine breakfast on the weekends, and cheap too. The bacon and sausage quality is really decent. The scrambled eggs are not impressive. They do have an omelette stand if you want to do that and I can say it's at least as good as getting one at an Embassy Suites, for what it is worth. Embassy Suites has a nice breakfast too, but not world-class by any means. By 10:30 they also start putting out lunch stuff too so you can try that, but I think the breakfast is superior compared to lunch.

You would be friends in real life with a person who posts murderously racist things about black people? And a guy who said terrible things about your wife when he thought he was anonymous?
You really need to get your head checked, spanky.

I strongly identify with your statement about work meetings being plenty of socialization for me. Similarly, everyone finds me well-spoken and highly competent even if not overly small talkish.

I wouldn't even be friends with that guy in real life.
Buy yourself a clue, this is not real life. This is CI.

I’m not as exclusionary as you.
I also recognize they the way people behave here is not the way people behave in real life.
Of course, if I was out to lunch with him and he was openly raging about black people then we wouldn’t have any more lunches.

Not capitalizing Black people? Horrible racism and I hereby cancel our brunch at Denny's tomorrow.

That would never happen. You can't do that in public life. And anyway, I don't hate all black people. But I find that I enjoy the way some people react here when I am a little bit racist.

You are being exceedingly foolish. He really is that way whether he opens his maw and says it, or just types it.

what if he asked you about not living in a predominantly black neighborhood - would you get up and walk out?

What makes this BBS great is we can talk about this stuff.
That would not be something two normal people talk about in real life, though.
Anyway, I agree with his choice of not living near too many blacks. The only criticism is that his particular neighborhood is not particularly interesting in any identifiable way. It's a bunch of regularly laid out similar housing units, all of them with siding and on very flat land. Aesthetically, that sucks. But what can you do. It's large and comfortable, there aren't going to be any earthquakes or hurricanes or wild fires and probably no appreciable flooding ever. It's a blue pill community. But that's a valid choice too.
I'd prefer a small brick house on the edge of town where I could shoot away from town at tin cans and nobody would care, preferable on a few acres with a stream and some hills. I'd buy two ATVs.

I'm mostly commenting on the view from your house. There's lots of stuff not too far off. Fermilab, Busse Woods, any number of things.

Yeah. We took this lot to save $20k and spent that on interior finishes. We keep our house well-maintained on the outside but curb appeal was never a priority for us. You rarely see the outside of your house. You always see the inside.
