Florida is quickly becoming ground zero in the battle for control of Congress, as Gov. Ron DeSantis pushes a new proposal to redraw the state’s congressional map just months before the midterm elections.
The plan, submitted to lawmakers Monday ahead of a special legislative session, could significantly shift political power in the state—potentially handing Republicans up to four additional seats in the U.S. House and reshaping key districts in Central and South Florida.
If approved, the proposal would overhaul several congressional districts, tilting the map more heavily in favor of Republicans. Areas like Tampa could lose Democratic representation altogether, while South Florida districts would also see changes that reduce Democratic-leaning seats.
Florida currently has 28 congressional districts, with eight held by Democrats. The new map could shrink that number, strengthening the GOP’s position in a narrowly divided U.S. House, where Republicans currently hold a slim majority.
The proposal was first shared publicly on Fox News before being formally submitted to the Legislature. Lawmakers are expected to begin reviewing it in committee Tuesday, with a possible floor vote as soon as Wednesday.

So they’re weakening GOP majorities in districts across the state it what already promises to be a massive blue wave election.

The Florida Constitution's anti-gerrymandering provisions, known as the Fair Districts Amendments (passed in 2010 as Amendments 5 and 6), prohibit drawing legislative or congressional districts intended to favor or disfavor a political party or incumbent. These rules mandate that districts must be contiguous and cannot deny minorities equal opportunity to participate in the political process.

They are currently drawn along racial lines in numerous areas. The literal definition of racism. That will be corrected.
That in no way 'denies' anyone's participation.
