For more than 20 years I used Checkfree’s online bill pay service. Every payment, whether electronic or mail, was delivered date certain on the day you specified. I honestly don’t know how they did that with the paper check payments. But they did. In all that time if there were five late payments I’d be surprised. And any late fees were compensated by them. It was perfect. I just set every payment to be paid on the due date unless the due date fell on a weekend or holiday, then I’d just schedule the prior business day.

Checkfree shut down their consumer service in December. So I had to switch to using my bank’s bill pay service. It generally sucks ass but the biggest issue is they do not provide timely delivery in a reliable way. And they don’t reimburse for late fees. When I first started with them I was scheduling for the due date but then I got a few late payment fees. Of course, I just called the billers, explained the situation, and had the fees credited.

Now, to avoid hassle I schedule my payments three business days early. That enrages me. My float becomes their float.

Fuq them. I hate all billers with a passion.
