The NBA is moving to 32 teams. MLB will have 32 teams within the next 5-10 years as well.
Also, pretty crazy that Las Vegas will now have teams in all 4 majors sports.

This is a vote to move forward with exploring it, taking bids from ownership groups, etc. there will be a final vote before it's all approved.

No idea why you wouldn't have 32 teams. In terms of pairs (matching) it's a natural set of 2^5. This makes it much easier to divide teams into groups, divisions and playoffs. Otherwise you've got some wonky way of creating divisions and who gets into the payoffs.
