Afroman defends viral music videos during trial after 2022 police raid
The Grammy-nominated "Because I Got High" rapper was sued by Ohio police in 2023 after his music videos used footage from a 2022 police raid on his home.
Rapper Afroman testified in an Ohio civil trial over a lawsuit filed by Adams County sheriff’s deputies who allege he used footage from a 2022 raid on his home in two viral music videos without permission. He claims the raid was a mistake, that the videos are protected speech, and that they helped raise repair funds, while the deputies seek compensation for alleged embarrassment and death threats.
Afroman is taking the stand three years after he was sued by Ohio law enforcement for his use of real footage of police in a pair of viral music videos.
A lawsuit against the Grammy-nominated rapper (real name Joseph Foreman) was filed by Adams County Sheriff deputies in 2023 after his music videos, "Will You Help Me Repair My Door" and "Lemon Pound Cake," used footage from a 2022 police raid on his home. The trial for the case kicked off on Monday, March 16.
"All of this is their fault," Afroman, 51, said during a Tuesday hearing. "If they hadn't wrongly raided my house, there would be no lawsuit, I would not know their names, they wouldn't be on my home surveillance system and there would be no songs."
The footage comes from a 2022 raid on Afroman’s home in Adams County, Ohio; he was not present and his then‑wife recorded the raid on her phone.
The complaint names two sergeants, a detective and four deputies, alleging unauthorized use of their likenesses and claiming they suffered embarrassment and death threats.

Snowflake police expected a safe space when they raided someone's home?
This trial's been going on for a couple of days. The cops may have been mocked due to the videos, but the trial so far just exposes them to more mockery.

There's other video from the trail, showing video of woman deputy being mocked, and they showed her crying on the witness stand. She was asking for over $1M. But it's already over, Afroman acquitted.
