The 2026 Capitol Christmas tree will come from Idaho
NEZ PERCE, Idaho — A living piece of Idaho will be in Washington, D.C. this holiday season. A tree from the 4,000,000-acre Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests will be placed on the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol.
Each year for the last 56 years, the U.S. Forest Service has selected a tree from one of the 154 national forests across the country. Before it makes its final stop at the U.S. Capitol, the tree stops at communities across the country.
“It is an honor to see a piece of -----> our backyard <------ bring Idaho spirit to the nation’s Capitol this holiday season,” said U.S. Senator Mike Crapo. “This remarkable tree from the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests represents the natural beauty, stewardship, and community spirit of north-central Idaho.

Idaho Senator Jim Risch said, “It is an honor to have the 2026 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree come from Idaho’s Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. Idaho’s public lands are the pride of the Gem State and central to our way of life. I look forward to seeing this piece of Idaho at the centerpiece of our nation’s Christmas celebrations this year.”
Before the tree makes its journey across the U.S., there will be events throughout north-central Idaho to celebrate the occasion.
This is the second time in 10 years that Idaho has provided the tree. In 2016, the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree came from the Payette National Forest.
