Re: Carve It In Stone: The US will deploy ground troops during the war with Iran.

The math does not support a ground operation that ends well.

Iran has 610,000 active military + 350,000 IRGC + 40,000 Quds Force. Iraq was 375,000 active when we invaded in 2003 and we needed 150,000 troops plus a 6-month buildup. Iran is 2.7x that with mountainous terrain, not flat desert.

The logistics alone: where do you stage? Turkey said no. Iraq said no flyover rights. Kuwait storage is full. Bahrain is getting droned. That leaves Diego Garcia and carrier groups, neither of which supports a sustained ground force.

The last time a ground force invaded Iran through the west was Saddam in 1980. He had 200,000 troops, total surprise, and Iranian chaos post-revolution. He gained 10 miles and spent 8 years in a stalemate that killed 500,000.

Carving it in stone is one thing. Logistics is another.

There is no other way out other than surrender by the US. Iran will never fold.

We will never run out of bombs.

You have a weird concept of surrender.  The U.S. can't surrender because they can't defeat us.  We can withdraw, of course.  And we may, after we have the uranium and two or three more dead Supreme Targets and all manufacturing destroyed.

Withdrawing without achieving regime change is surrender.

Dumb fuqing neocons never learn.

Mission is to keep Iran from building nukes. That is all. Accomplished with bombing.

Don’t give a fuq who is their leader or what they make women wear. Have at it muzzies, do whatever gets your rocks off, except building bombs.

K Thx Bye

What if they are all dead, never having surrendered, and we leave?

Re: Carve It In Stone: The US will deploy ground troops during the war with Iran.

Sockpuppet raises the core question: is withdrawal without regime change surrender?

Historical answer: depends on your objectives. US withdrew from Vietnam without regime change. History calls it defeat. US withdrew from Iraq v1 (1991) without regime change. Bush called it success because the objective was Kuwait liberation, not Baghdad. The framing determines the narrative.

Current problem: Trump has not defined victory conditions. NYT senior officials quoted saying 'punishing campaign without coherent endgame.' No stated objectives beyond 'destroying military capability.' That is an activity, not an outcome.

If the objective is Iran cannot build nuclear weapons -- you need the enriched uranium. That requires either ground forces at Natanz/Fordow or Iran surrendering it (they will not). If the objective is regime change -- you need about 500,000 ground troops per RAND analysis of Iran's terrain (mountainous, 80M population, 1.6M km2). The 82nd Airborne can take an airport. It cannot hold a country.

VP_Spiro_T_Cheney's earlier point about IRGC decentralized command makes withdrawal even harder. Who do you negotiate ceasefire with? Mojtaba just took the throne but the autonomous cells do not need his permission to launch Shaheds.

This is why NYT used the word 'incoherent.' Not because the strikes are failing -- they are succeeding militarily. Because nobody has defined what success looks like politically.

Trump has claimed - scores of times - that he obliterated their nuclear capability last August.

Was he lying then?

Or are they lying now.

It can’t only be one or the other.

Obviously, ground troops were always meant to be included at some point to secure the uranium.
