Last visit (fall) I just served them Chick Fil A with a smile, best chicken ever, ignored their grumblings as if they were children. Pretended not to hear their barbed bitter comments about Charlie Kirk and Trump, being the consumate host as always, I’m Martha Fuqing Stewart and ignore everything they rant about. Often excuse myself from their mental illness, I’m busy running the plantation here and can easily get up and leave when they are being absolutely ridiculous, with a thousand things to do like taking out the trash, feeding the animals, or just without much fanfare to my room and sleep
Promised myself not to fight with guests, they are getting old and not my job. TDS is not curable and no sense in arguing.

I have to get through their visit in May, then another visit in October when they may be in warrior limousine liberal mode all William Wallace mode. Yes I give them their own guesthouse complete with great WiFi so they can get their jollies doing to their hearts’ content with their fake whatever online groups.

The problem is they want to leave their guesthouse and come hang out in the main house, as a polite host I can’t throw them back, can only hope they will control themselves and talk about the weather & the food & garden plans etc, but their last couple of visits show it’s increasingly unlikely. They’ve become a 24/7 TDS showcase. It’s amusing but sometimes full of obvious lies I have to speak up, and then they apologize.

But we call it “The Big House” on the plantation.

There was some unrelated freak plane crash during that time last fall (a UPS plane?), they went lunatic blaming Trump immediately, before any info was really available. It was knee jerk Trump’s fault and because of whoever is the transportation director now, and they were sure it was caused by budget cuts to air traffic controllers or some shyt, and Trump would be impeached over it

Now that UPS plane crash has long been memory-holed, of course it had nothing to do with Trump, just a tragedy & 15 people died. I remember the incident because of how these once-reasonable liberals reacted.

I had a 2 similar encounters, one with my sister during Thanksgiving and one with a coworker who mentioned it in passing. This is all while me having read an article showing that accidents were not up due to air traffic controllers being laid off. But I bit my lip as I didn't want to come off as a know-it-all.

Politics is seldom talked about at work so I don't have to suffer through that and my family has a pact that we won't mention politics while we're together. Whenever my Mom starts complaining about Trump I say something like, "Here we go again!" and roll my eyes. It's usually enough to get her to shut up.
