Brand new Pottery Barn rugs from India & China are shyt, full of glues & adhesives that fester & turn dark amber in a dry-rot. These rugs are made with short inferior wool fibers resulting in massive shedding, and the dry-rot adhesive starts to stink. Having it cleaned makes the adhesive stink more, and these rugs get thrown away.
An antique one made of long fiber real wool made by hand with natural dyes in the ancient world looks 169% better, but afraid it will harbor smells of a muzzie opium den and curry and body odor.

I suggest you go with a shag fabric made in the USA.

They think you smell like hot dogs and mayonnaise.

It’s for a room with a fireplace.
Wool is naturally fire-resistant and if an ember shot out, it would self extinguish leaving a burnt hole. Better than the trendy natural seagrass or jute rug ready to go up in flames.
But the fireplace room area is warm, afraid it would awaken some long buried mystery Afghani smells. I can handle the natural goat smell of real wool, it’s the mystery feet & smoke I’m scared of.

They aren’t buying an antique rug from me and 100 years of American stink.

If you are such a sensitive snowflake, don't buy it.

Maybe for a doormat or hallway. Don’t want to risk a 100 yr old stink in the living room

I looked at them online once and now I’m bombarded with ads & images of gorgeous expensive antique middle eastern rugs 24/7
Why are there no Americana prize rugs?

For the same reason one generally has to choose between "cheap" and "good" across the board.

One of my family's prized possessions is a Navajo rug.
