Sort of interesting listening to him in that interview (second link in this thread). He was basically dealing with stalkers and PI assholes back then (1980s).

He ran his BBS on an Apple II. I remember buying an Apple IIe in 1994 so I could get on BBSs. I couldn't hardly find any software for it so I played games like Frogger.

In 1995 I bought an IBM PC and everyone I knew gave me free software it was so abundant. It was much easier getting on BBSs with that thing.

It said he turned his BBS on full time in December 1983. Damn! That's early. He even started part-time before that. I didn't realize BBSs were on that early. The earliest I ever got on the Internet was 1992 through Compuserve. My roommate and I looked up plane fares which tapped into Sabre's system. That's the same system travel agents used.

I first went to Ripco in 1986. 1200 baud modem.

Wow! What type of PC did you use back then?

My first modem in 1994 was 2400. I remember it took almost a minute to paint the main BBS page.

lol

I downloaded simple jpg porn files and it took 20 minutes.

lol

Then in 1995 I could afford a 14.4 modem and zoom!, the page took less than 5 seconds to paint.

I find his articulation pretty interesting in contrast to his massive Chicago accent.

Thanks for the reply. You must have been a young whippersnapper back then. This guy talks about some BBS SYSOPS were still in junior high when they started their boards.

I noticed that too. Guy seems pretty relatable to us old computer nerds.

I first used a computer at age 9 in 1980. I think I got my Vic20 for Christmas in 1983. So I would have been 12.
