That’s why the US keeps a strong military (and spends a large fortune doing it) so we don’t get run over. Nobody dare step.
Or we could spend all that money on social welfare programs like Europe, or squander all funds on grifting & corruption & lining others pockets, and be very weak militarily.

Russia has barely managed to take 10% of the country. Ukraine has repelled and stopped them for years.

False equivalence. It's the same reason Hitler invaded Poland. Ethnic Germans in Danzig were being mistreated by the Poles. Ethnic Russians in the Donbas were being mistreated by the Ukrainians. They were about 40% of the population. So Putin, like Hitler, moved in to help his people.

The Mexicans in the Southwest US and the Cubans in south Florida aren't being mistreated.
