I normally run the laptops with the battery-removed, and keep the 5 spare batteries on my bookshelf, charged at 70%.
This way, my laptops can last 30+ years if needed.

.,I have 3 live laptops with constant sync (3 others as backups)
1 have another government laptop which sync's elsewhere.
I do regular backups of system imaging which gets transferred to a local copy store and into the cloud after encryption.
After total hardware failure or some sort of retaded ransom attack I can be back up and running in ~1 hour.

Yes, but my laptops are physically identical (same make & model), so that I can rotate my 5 spare batteries through either one of them.

sure same - ThinkPad 470 each with minor tweaks - but I can swap out the HD, memory, or battery as needed.

I assume none of yuo are using Linux.

Why do Thinkpads have the CTRL and FN keys in the wrong positions?

for desktop activity - no that's a waste of time.

Lenovo reversed them with the latest X1s.

In other words, you value your time.
Others, like AU3, use Desktop Linux.

You should ask why Thinkpads still have the nipple.

So what are you running? You said above that you were using Thinkpad 470s, and IIRC they have 6 and 7th gen Core CPUs which are unsupported by Windows 11.

Still Windows 10. I did prototype Windows 11 for several months on one machine - I just can't use the updated taskbar. I don't know why they can't offer an option to use the old style with multi-rows, and are also forcing task grouping. Win 11 is also moving into deep tracking.
Do I let the hackers try to breach me - or let Windows breach me by consent?

I just don't like the idea of running an unsupported OS - I put Win 11 with ExplorerPatcher on one of my P52s and with the correct settings it does a pretty good job of restoring the Windows 10 look and feel. Win11debloat will also remove a lot of the other baked in shyt (like the telemetry) - but I guess it depends on how much you want to fight with the system.

I thought MS was still patching Win 10, provided you had a Microsoft Account for data collection?

Win 10 support officially ended on 14th Oct, so it's been out of support for a few weeks now.

This is false.
If you use Windows Backup to sync Windows Settings to the cloud, then you can get "Extended Security Updates" free, for another year.

OK, I didn't know about that one - only the "pay $30" option. I've already retired all my Win 10 machines anyway.

I maintain FOUR identical laps, in which I rotate 10 different batteries.
This way, my great grandchildren will easily be able to access my genius via Word files.
You are poor and likely a simpleton as well.

I'm a multi-millionaire, and a genius.
You? Not so much.
