AnimeBoiKeep your belongings close and the pepper spray handy if you plan to trek to the city's near West side.
Chicago's United Center Park earned a No.1 rank in the top 25 Most Dangerous Neighborhoods in the United States, according to a report on Walletpop.com.
The results are based on exclusive data generated by NeighborhoodScout.com and FBI metrics culled from local law enforcement agencies. Drilling down to the neighborhood level allows for fewer generalizations, the report says. The site, however, does show a list of the most dangerous cities as well. No cities in Illinois make that top-100 list.
According to the info, anyone walking down Lake Street between Damen and Western has a 1 in 4 chance of being a victim of a crime. Those who choose to live there face the same odds with the chances of being robbed.

PuppetMasterI saw that article earlier today, but i do not think it is true. I live very very close to there, and although yes that area over by the United Center has some sketchy people walking around, there is no way that it is the most dangerous spot in the country to walk. If anything, it would be somewhere on the south side of Chicago, in the Englewood neighborhood.

I think what drives the statistic up is that United Center attracts white people (= targets) who don't knoa better, while no whites ever go to deep ghetto like Englewood, West Garfield Park, etc.

In some areas it's 11:00am or so. I had a friend that was hanging fiber optic line through a part of LA. They drove out at 6:00am under police escort and supervision, and were told to have their tools and equipment packed up by 11:00am, or the two cop cars protecting them would leave them there. 11:00 am because that was right before all the gang bangers started waking up.

That neighborhood is being yuppied & hipstered, and I have a hard time figuring out how anyone could have come up with that stat.
There are waaaay more dangerous 'hoods. Marquette & Englewood districts on the S & SW sides have the highest violent crime rates in the city. And most of the Marquette neighborhood was nice, ethnic middle-class neighborhood til the 80s & 90s when the nignogs & beaners took over.
