In any case, the welfare programs won't be ended because nobody wants huge gangs of thugs and whytes running wild to steal from you instead of getting a government check. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to cut into the programs, lower benefits, and try ways to phase out the programs from people who don't need the gubmint handout.
