Yea, they didn't even have timezones until trains. Until the industrial revolution  no one had clocks. That's not something you can make by hand. Until around 1000 AD they didn't even have the concept of what year it was.

I'm very intrigued by this. Now there's a clock on almost everything I use or look at.

Time is the master. It is the one thing that you can not buy or save.

Yea. Everything was dated by the King's reign. So you got things like Emperor Justinian of Byzantine. He was co-emperor for a while 14 years before he finally did away with the old emperor and became emperor himself. So no one know the real date of anything that happened in his reign cause no one now knows if they were dating from the first date or the second.

The whole idea of knowing what year it was came from Easter. The British and Irish converted to Christianity pretty much on their own, centuries be the Frankish kings helped the Catholic church conquer Europe.

The English church and the Catholic church were celebrating Easter at slightly different times. For many reasons this was a huge matter. So a Catholic mathematician figured out all the Easters back to Christ, in order to show that the Catholics are celebrating Easter at the same time the early church did, and the English are wrong.

So someone looks at this  and says "Oh shyt, you just figured the number of years since christ was born. "
