Now answering your questions about the Bible.

To start. Jesus tells his listeners that He will return within their lifetime. How did that work out?

Mark 13:30Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.

Matthew 16:28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

Revelation 22:7 Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.

Re: Now answering your questions about the Bible.

Old T question here: Some where in
Genesis I think are references to humans mating w/ angels or some other supernatural beings - very Greek mythology - Do you know where this is?

Also interested in references to the female consort of yahweh, later purged from the Torah - Lillith?

Yes, brainiac, Genesis borrows heavily from the Greek mythology which preceded it.

Is there any evidence at all that the murder of the first born sons in exodus is really a supernatural event and not some assholes killing all the babies themselves?  WHy the lamb's blood?

The nephilim they are called. If you take Genesis, erm, literally, they would have been wiped out by the great flood of Noah.

Genesis 6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

or maybe they could tread water really well..

Numbers 13:33 And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

The story of Lillith comes from either the 9th or 10th century.

Maybe..

Lamentations 2:10 The elders of the daughter of Zion sit upon the ground, and keep silence: they have cast up dust upon their heads; they have girded themselves with sackcloth: the virgins of Jerusalem hang down their heads to the ground.

Who knows? One thing I find hilarious about that story is that after all the first born are killed, and the other nine plagues, Pharaoh tells the Israelites to GTFO. Then God fuqs with him to change his mind and chase them.

Exodus 11
10And Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh: and the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go out of his land.

The OT god requires blood sacrifice quite often. Do you recall the story of Abraham being told to sacrifice his own son?

Also zombies rose upon Jesus' death.

Matthew 27: 51And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

52And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,

53And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

What a noteworthy event! Too bad it is only recorded in the Bible.

Who wants to tell the same story twice? But, they do, over and over. The bible as a work of literature is worth reading.

I had to Google it.

If you had posted, Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: I probably would have gotten 2 Corinthians 6.

So how do you view the bible, are you a believer on any level? Is there a god?

Matthew is the only one who mentions zombies in the Passion Narrative. Of course, the gospels also disagree on what Jesus' final words were as well as the hour of his death.

Come to think of it, they disagree on who was the ruler at the time of Jesus' birth.

I view the Bible as a weapon that can be used to con people into believing almost anything. You can make a myriad of different arguments using it.

I don't believe in God. I don't understand how people who have extensively studied it could.

The stories of the world are in that book. But, they are stories.

Not really the stories of the world so much as a small part of it. 3/4ths of the Bible is the Old Testament. It mainly centers around the domination of a small group over their neighbors and subsequent enslavement by them for "pissing off God."
