Well I hope Winston recovers and lives at least a few more years.  But one thing I like to remind people of is that in the wild it's almost certain he would not have lived as long as he did with you (maybe not even half as long really).  And you provided him a far nicer life too.

Cats aren't as needy as dogs.  Every now and then it will pretend to like me and I'll pretend to like it, and we both move on with our lives.
