A Cuban-born woman who became a U.S. citizen in 2015 lost her citizenship after a federal judge ruled she had concealed her role in a money-laundering conspiracy tied to a multimillion-dollar theft from a Florida casino.
A judge in the Southern District of Florida revoked Milagros Marileisis Acosta Torres’ citizenship on Oct. 14, the Justice Department said. The department announced the ruling Oct. 21. The judgment followed a joint motion by Acosta Torres and the government seeking revocation of her naturalization.
Before she became a citizen, Acosta Torres was part of a conspiracy involving the Miccosukee Resort & Gaming in Miami-Dade County, according to the Justice Department. Her husband and other conspirators stole about $5.3 million from the casino between 2011 and 2015 by tampering with gaming machines to produce fraudulent credit vouchers.
Acosta Torres helped launder the proceeds through financial transactions intended to disguise their source and avoid reporting requirements.
During her 2015 naturalization application and interview, Acosta Torres said she had never committed a crime for which she had not been arrested, the department said. She later pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering and was convicted in federal court in 2020. She was sentenced to six months in prison and ordered to pay nearly $150,000 in restitution, according to the Justice Department.
The government filed its denaturalization complaint against Acosta Torres on June 8. The judge’s Oct. 14 judgment formally revoked her naturalization.
The Justice Department announced the case alongside another citizenship revocation involving a Nigerian-born woman who had used a U.S. citizen’s identity to obtain a passport, according to the department.

Maybe President TRUMP has a more clever idea in mind. Until then, diamonds need digging! Remember, everybody looks the same in those mines.
