WASHINGTON (TNND) — Democrats hold a double-digit edge over Republicans on the congressional generic ballot, and the numbers suggest President Donald Trump is a central factor shaping how many voters say they plan to cast their ballots.

A new NPR/PBS News/Marist Poll finds Democrats leading Republicans 53% to 41% among registered voters. Among independent voters, Democrats lead by 25 points, 57% to 32%, a gap that could matter in closely contested House and Senate races where independents often help decide the outcome.


The poll also shows a significant share of voters framing their congressional vote through the lens of Trump. Forty-five percent of voters say their congressional vote is mainly a vote against Trump, compared with 24% who say it is mainly a vote for him.
