Over the last few weeks, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Dan Caine has privately made clear to other top Trump advisers that the US needs to find an off-ramp from the war with Iran — because the military options on the table to escalate the conflict could backfire and airpower alone is unlikely to achieve President Donald Trump’s stated objectives, according to three sources familiar with the matter.

“Caine is looking for an off ramp,” one of the sources said bluntly.

Caine understands nothing.  The US bombed Germany into surrender in WWII, and Vietnam into surrender.

No shytwit, the RAF and the USAAF DID NOT bomb Germany into surrender. Germany surrendered because the Red Army fought its way thru Prussia and into Berlin and the Anglo/American ground forces fought their way to Hamburg in the North, the Elbe River in the center and thru Bavaria and into Czechoslovakia in the South.  The bombing campaign in Japan did not end the war in the Pacific, nor did the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  Japan quit because it was facing possible invasion by Soviet forces and certain invasion by US forces (Operation Olympic on Kyushu, 11/45; Operation Coronet on Honshu, Q1/1946).  Bombing alone does not win wars.
