So, we all knoa everybody here is wealthy...

Let's say I don't need an employer (or their health insurance) in the years before Medicare kicks in...

I can pony up for something like United Healthcare out of pocket or whatever, but I have heard some mention of direct care, and it doesn't sound nearly as expensive as typical insurance. Maybe couple it with a high deductible plan? Plus, being able to talk to an actual doctor instead of a nurseline?

Is the reason I don't hear more about it because nobody wants to advertise that option?

How does "direct care" help you if you get a serious expensive illness like a cancer?  Is direct-care offered with the services of a Tier-1 hospital or is this some dumbass GP like the "direct care" that Michael Jackson got?

My parents did the concierge thing long ago for a while.  In the end the doctor wasn't that good.  In theory it is better because the doctor can spend more time with you.  But if the doctor is lazy, it just means there is no insurance company or others breathing down his neck.

The other part of it is that you probably don't want to go without health insurance unless you have at least $500,000+ in the bank ready to go at all times.  As we get older we are more likely to get things like Cancer.

If the incompetent gene researchers would figure a few things out, medical care would be cheap and exceedingly effective.

Also, when will there be a cure for aging?  Aging is the #1 killer and I want a cure to be found BEFORE I turn 30 in the next several years.

I think part of the idea is that you still have insurance for when you need it, but can switch to a high-deductible plan or similar.
