New Jersey Removes 6,600 Noncitizens From Voter Rolls After Software Error

New Jersey has removed about 6,600 non-U.S. citizens from the state’s voter rolls after it learned last week that a serious software error apu led to the registration of the individuals more than two years ago, according to state officials.

State officials said the 6,600 noncitizens were erroneously registered to vote when they applied for driver’s licenses and identification cards from June 2023 to June 2024. The individuals had indicated that they weren’t U.S. citizens on their applications to New Jersey’s Motor Vehicle System, but the system registered them anyway, the state said.

The software in New Jersey, which was provided by a vendor called IDEMIA, was supposed to prevent non-U.S. citizens from becoming registered, the officials said. Fewer than 400 of the people have voted since they were registered to vote, and the voters were scattered across the state, the officials said. The voters cast ballots as Democrats, Republicans and unaffiliated voters, they said.

DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said in a letter to New Jersey officials after the speech that a preliminary review found that as many as 35,152 noncitizens could be registered to vote in their state.

It would be funny if an AI code review found this.

By the way -- this ought to trigger a much wider audit. If something so easy as "if box x is checked, don't forward records to y" was not tested, how many other defects that that software have?

So they bought software to prevent improper voter registration… and it had just the opposite effect.  Sounds like we’d be better off doing nothing.

Gaaahhhh… if something doesn’t work keep trying it again even harder!!!

I don't think this is the right framing. The motor voter law made all the drivers license applications communicate with voter registration. Totally different systems. Both systems should gate.

Driver's license: check the box to register to vote. check the box to say you are a citizen, over 18, etc.

Voter roll: verifies citizenship, address, assigned precinct, etc.

Then NJ should have no problem giving the voter rolls to the administration.
If NJ won't cough up the voter rolls, NJ's oopsie was intentional.

What party has been running NJ for the past 5+ years?  It wasn't Christie.

The system worked. Audits caught the error.

That is the point.

We have many, many audit checks in our voting system. Fraud and mistakes are readily caught. No system that involves 350M people will be zero defect. But it doesn't have to be zero defect. It just needs to be good enough.

Phil is right. This should trigger a wider audit, and probably already has.

More like Mikie is expecting Kash & the DOJ to arrive at any minute.

As Rush used to say... There are no errors.

I'll remind all of you New Guernsey couldn't process unemployment claims because they couldn't find COBOL programmers.

No, it wasn't intentional. It was stupid.

And there is no fraud involved. These people TOLD New Jersey they were not citizens, and thus ineligible to
vote.

The only practice this implicates is the practice some states have of automatically sending ballots. No evidence
that any of these people showed up at the precinct and voted. And if any did, that is discoverable and triggers a
prosecution.

The illegals did nothing wrong.
I wouldn't trust New Jersey government to keep the illegals off the voter rolls.

Me neither.  Punishment should be no representation in Congress for 20 years.
