William Bradford Shockley (February 13, 1910 – August 12, 1989) was an American physicist. He was the manager of a research group at Bell Labs that included John Bardeen and Walter Brattain. The three scientists were jointly awarded the 1956 Nobel Prize in Physics "for their researches on semiconductors and their discovery of the transistor effect."
Partly as a result of Shockley's attempts to commercialize a new transistor design in the 1950s and 1960s, California's Silicon Valley became a hotbed of electronics innovation. He recruited brilliant employees, but quickly alienated them with his autocratic and erratic management; they left and founded major companies in the industry.
In his later life, while he was a professor of electrical engineering at Stanford University and afterward, Shockley became known as a racist and a eugenicist.

Stanford wouldn't let Russell Varian (invented the klystron) into their PhD program.

Yet, Stanford gave a degree in "Communications" to negro Richard Sherman, even though he sounds like a ghetto chimp ranting in ebonics.

Sounds like a lot of smart people. They get really good at 1 thing, and then convince themselves they are good at EVERYTHING.
Elon Musk is a perfect example of this kind of flawed thinking. He may have been a smart business guy at one point, but he's not good at everything.

What part was he wrong about?

James Watson was a molecular biologist & geneticist who won the Nobel Prize for discovering the structure of DNA.
He also stated that blacks were genetically dumber than whites.
"Watson repeatedly asserted that differences in average measured IQ between blacks and whites are due to genetics."

As a result, he was blacklisted by academia, and became unemployable.
In order to pay the bills, he auctioned off his Nobel Prize.
A wealthy Russian guy bought it for $5 million, and gave the Nobel Prize back to James Watson, saying that he deserved to keep it.
The wealthy Russian guy saw the absurdity in western political correctness, and basically gave $5 million to James Watson, so he could live out his life in dignity.

Nobel Prize winners William Shockley & James Watson have impeccable credentials, have contributed enormously to technology & science & modern civilization, but were cancelled as soon as they pointed out the obvious fact that blacks are dumber than whites.

And yet...
He would give it all up if only he had one of these....

Clearly you do not understand. Unsurprising.

Always liked Bob Metcalfe, inventor of Ethernet, from the era when computing was still a gentleman's pursuit.
