Zohran MamdaniNono, not you Tay Tay.
It's too bad that NY shut down the Indian Point nuclear power plant in 2021.

The fastest way to add capacity to the grid is renewables - wind and solar. Just saying.

They could have built several combined cycle natural gas power plants since Indian Point was shutdown in 2021.

We should be clearer about who "they" are: the private power company.

It's a fair point, but ignores the three to four year permitting process that these companies get dragged through, before they can start construction. Assuming they get approved at all.

VP_Spiro_T_CheneyTrump issued a stop work order on the 806 MW Vineyard Wind project when it was 95% complete, then gave another $2 billion U.S. taxpayer dollars to various utilities to entice them into cancelling other renewable energy projects.
Two billion tax dollars spent on NOT producing more electricity.

Tough shyt. Needed the money to buy new sections of the border wall that Joementia sold off.

Let’s see if I understand your position:
1. You mind when the left discourage building new fossil fuel plants.
2. You don’t mind when the right discourages building clean energy plants.
3. You think power plants should be built whenever and wherever a power company wants without any permitting process or government oversight.
Right?

I woke up this morning freezing under blankets, went to the bathroom where thankfully the heated tile floors are on all year, then checked the thermostat which was set on 67. I immediately turned it to 72 for the day. The first floor was already set at 72 overnight and felt a little hot compared to the icy upstairs at 67.
It’s now 96 out and predicted to go up to 99 today. No construction workers here. I know my outside plantings could use some watering but tough shyt for them, sink or swim. Will be inside today.

WHY DIDN'T ZOHRAN MAMDANI START BUILDING GENERATING CAPACITY FIVE YEARS AGO??? IT'S SOCIALISM THAT HE DIDN'T!!!

It's simpler than that. Don't bitch about having to set your thermostats above the comfort level while closing down nuclear power plants and refusing to permit natural gas plants. BTW wind only generates 1/3 of the energy of its nameplate capacity.

Dumbass Mamdani should have kept his mouth shut, let the power company spokesman be the bad guy, or let the governor take the fall. Best would be to remain silent on any energy talk and hope someone in the Trump circle would be forced to come out and be the bad guy.

Facing 5-10 years of environmental reviews that prioritize fish over people.

So you are also saying don’t bitch about private corporations not being able to meet customer demand.
Right?

So our representatives should put politics ahead of what is best for us?

How long should power plant permitting take?
Be specific.

We've been permitting power plants for over a century. How come that institutional knowledge only goes into the delay and make things costly direction? The process should be closer to six months.

Air permits typically take 12 months. In NY you are talking up to a decade.

Well yeah, that sounds like the chickenshyt MAGA way… ignore any uncomfortable truth and don’t lead or take accountability for anything

What NY has done is best described as "going full retard"
Shutdowns 2,000 MW of nuclear power and phase out every coal fired plant in the state. You also shut down the peaking power generators in NYC, without a replacement to provide peaking and reactive power.
Start a build-out of wind and solar that despite a decade and massive subsidies is a rounding error as a percentage of in-state generation.
End up relying on natural gas fired generators but block building the pipelines to get the gas to the power plants. This was done to the point of two major utilities freezing all new gas hookup because they can't guarantee being able to deliver the gas. One went as far as putting out an RFP for "Non-Pipelines Solutions". I actually participated in this RFP by proposing to turn garbage into RNG. The proposal made it all the way to the C-Suites, which declined to go further out of fear of the politics of building a plant in NY.
There was a gas fired plant to be built in NJ (1,200 MW) to supply NYC. The Governor's wife got upset (she is a big greenie) and the NJ Governor blocked permitting for the plant.
NY's saving grace has been the activation of a $6B, 1,250 MW HVDC cable to bring in power from Quebec Hydro directly into NYC. The system was broken until yesterday. Today its running 100% capacity. Hydro Quebec though made an announcement about two years ago that they over-prescribed the power and doubt they can reliably deliver the promised amount of power. Especially during the cold winter months.

2. You don’t mind when the right discourages building clean energy plants.
Asynchronous generation that can't be dispatch on demand is causing catering grid reliability, power quality (big issue with harmonics), and has caused ruinous increases in the cost of electricity. NY is still going hog wild on building solar. The State is seizing thousands of acres of farmland and woodland to bulldoze and install panels in upstate NY. Big controversy going about that now.

3. You think power plants should be built whenever and wherever a power company wants without any permitting process or government oversight.
You should be able to build the plant if your technology meets the air-quality standards. You do measurement and verification afterwards to prove the fact. Virginia does this.
Right?

New york banned fracking. No one has ever died from fracking.

On what factual basis have you determined the process should take six months?
