Next to Malibu -- to the north is Calabasas to the east is Santa Monica, both of which border LA.

The city scenes in the Rockford Files are mostly in Santa Monica, with some in LA.

I lived in Malibu right near where Rockford's trailer would have been, also in Calabasas. Calabasas
is where Planet of the Apes (1968) was filmed. Also, M*A*S*H was filmed there.
