He's not pro-Israel enough for AIPAC jews, but he's jewish, and volunteered as a mechanic for the IDF during the 1991 Gulf War. That really limits his appeal.
He plays politics to win, and isn't afraid to throw sharp elbows. Not only did he serve in the Clinton White House, he was Obama's Chief of Staff for two years.
