Democrats discuss replacing the entire Virginia State Supreme Court to restore the party's congressional redistricting plan
Democrats discuss replacing the entire Virginia State Supreme Court to restore the party's congressional redistricting plan, according to a new report in the New York Times.
The idea would involve passing a new law requiring state Supreme Court justices to retire at age 54, which would allow Democrats to replace all the current members. The new justices could then rehear the redistricting case and overturn the previous decision.
The report says Democratic leaders in Virginia had mixed reactions about the idea and haven't agreed on a plan to move forward.
U.S. House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who took part in the private conversation where the idea was discussed, said they are "exploring all options" to overturn the court's decision.
Democrats are angry about Friday’s court ruling, which was a major setback for them. Progressives are demanding the party get tougher in its redistricting battle with Republicans and “fight fire with fire.” Some are even calling on Democratic leaders to ignore the court’s ruling. But the state’s Democratic leadership doesn’t seem willing to do that.
"No matter what it takes, House Democrats will win in November so we can help rescue this nation from the extremism being unleashed by Donald Trump and Republicans," Jeffries said. "Our fight is not over. We are just getting started.”

Like most people I had no earthly idea that New England had 0 congressmen due to gerrymandering.
Every. Single. Seat, despite the population being 40-50% not liberals. Seems the dems have already used up their blue states. Repubs just now catching up. The southern states are just now doing what the New England states did years ago.
What was attempted in VA was taking an entire huge rural state and connecting 5 rural districts by a string into Fairfax. 5 panhandles. Very convenient, all the VA congressmen for Deep South VA could end up being neighbors in the same Fairfax HOA. Terribly inappropriate and congrats, they put a big spotlight on the issue that almost nobody knew or cared about.

PS I have a feeling the public WTF conference call where they floated the idea of firing their entire Supreme Court by setting a max age of 45 or whatever was somebody joking, that’s absurd. Too bad the media had to report it at face value.
Not even the dumbass new governor would sign off something that retarded.
The entire fiasco has been an education to the rest of the country what can happen in an instant to a 50-50 purple state shortly after getting a liberal governor. Not a good look libs.
