I live in a tiny, southern, republican town with less than 2,000 people.

The mayor actually spends money on adding nice things.

We have a beautiful, human park that is right across the street from the police department.

We have a dog park with all kids of obstacles and neat things for the dogs to do.

3 out of 4 weekends, we have an open air market that takes place in 3 different parts of town so everyone can walk there.

There are steadily ongoing beautification projects.

The wastewater treatment plant has a separate park that stocks a pond and only lets adults watch as kids fish. (they cant keep the fish - catch and release)
They built it up with a beautiful shaded park and ornate woodword rails and benches completely around the pond.

They have redone about half the sidewalks in town to be straight and level.

And the city actually has a full time 5 man crew who does nothing but pick up litter, mow, and trim properties all around town.
