I don't think that restoring the archive would be appropriate.

Irrespective of my posts, when the board was transitioned to me hosting it the users at the time were promised two things:

1) I wouldn't see their IPs.
2) That if they wanted all of their posts wiped that they would be. Numerous users chose this option.

I'd love to have the IPs because it would make moderation easier. But it is sort of breaking of a contract.

There are four classes of posts that have been deleted:

1) the pre-2015 posts of mine that shlomo deleted for me at my request to ensure I didn't lose my job: these could still exist if there is a backup since they were wiped in a bulk operation, so depending on backup timing they might still be around

2) the post-2015 post of mine whose deletion I automated, one post at a time, long before I took over hosting: those are likely gone forever at least in terms of a single bulk restore and nobody is going to surgically stitch that all back together

3) the 2019 purge of posts from people besides me: when the board was transitioned to me for hosting, shlomo offered users the right to have their posts deleted if they so chose, and numerous people took him up on that offer; I suspect an archive backup exists of those (I would have done a backup for security purposes before handing the board over to me for hosting) - but it would be immoral to restore those posts

4) post-2019 deletions of my posts: these are never coming back for the same reasons as #2

I hear you - would require a lot of design, dev work, and testing. I thought about this though for social forums like Reddit. The moderation approach there has become often times insufferable. There's got to be a better way where there's some sort of half-way consensus among active users as to whether a post gets flagged/deleted.

Reddit is a shytheap echochamber of delicate flowers. I've never been banned so hard as I was on reddit. One forum had to pretty much restrict all new posters because I would just clear my cookies and create a new user with each post.

You got me all wrong. I posted views that were 169% diametrically opposed to the groupthink of a particular reddit forum.

The delicate flowers on that forum voted me down. But NevertheLess I Persisted (tm).

I would have happily continued to troll using a single account, but the flowers couldn't stand it and started reporting me for hurting feelings.

Once banned, I just created a new account.

They started banning me on sight so I simply kept creating new accounts.

Eventually without announcement they closed the forum to new users (and silently shadowbanned the poor newbies).

The things I posted on reddit were not actually factually untrue. They were just very unpopular with a certain cohort of 21-35 year old men. I simply refused to stop posting it.

There's a huge difference between what I posted and the hateful racism that baggers spout on this board, some of which is actually illegal.
