POINT / COUNTERPOINT: Is It Time To Dissolve The USPS? There Are No Less Than Four Major Package Delivery Services In The U.S. Other Than USPS.

Fedex, UPS, Amazon, DHL.  Probably you know another one or two that I don't.

As far as the mail goes, one or more of these services could do the mail as well.  The price might go up a little.  Who cares.  It's so rarely used anymore anyway.  Spend your extra ten bucks a year and please help yourself a nice free warm cup of shut the hell up.

There is always an argument this will hurt service for the most rural people in the country.  How many of them are there?  As far as I know these services serve everyone except possibly the most rural 100,000 in Alaska.  340 million people should not be held hostage by 100,000 as Spock might say.  Alaska can come up with something to serve them.

I'm not saying any of this to be mean.  It's purely business sense at this point.  No point in trying to keep an obsolete service alive against the will of the market.  And I think we can replace the lost service to the few who will miss it.

So is this a good idea or not?

Point: constitutionally mandated.

Game over. What do I win?

Get rid of it.  People who live in rural areas or small towns that are not cost effective should just get used to not having delivery service.

Not at all.  This is all it says:

"To establish Post Offices and post Roads"

Clearly Congress may do so.  At their discretion.  Just like roadways.  It's not hardly mandated.  Neither is raising an Army and Navy, taxing, etc., though they have the power to do that also.

No, but I'm glad they've stepped back from the nonsensical position of giving bulk discounts to pollution generating junk mailers.

Sure they could outsource the whole thing but they never will. You know why? USPS is the biggest affirmative action program in the federal government to prop up negro  employment. They reduced hiring standards and the civil service exam to achieve that.

Time to raise standards back up, and repatriate the negroes to somewhere they belong.

Then we'll just have to incinerate them, along with their deranged libfilth advocates. usa Neither belongs here. Hostile, invasive, parasitical vermin.

There are large parts of the country where those four companies don't and won't deliver.

Where?  Be specific.  All four.  Also, read the OP.  I acknowledge that is probably 80% of Alaska.  Which is inhabited by 100,000 people or less.  Fuq.  Them.

You could just google.  This is what it would tell you.

Major shipping carriers and e-commerce giants, including Amazon, UPS, FedEx, and DHL eCommerce, use the USPS for last-mile delivery to residential addresses. These companies, often called "consolidators," leverage the postal service's universal network to reduce costs, particularly for lightweight packages and in less dense areas, via services like Parcel Select.

Key Companies and Partners Using USPS for Last Mile
Amazon: Continues to use USPS for a significant portion of its deliveries despite having its own logistics network.
UPS: Uses USPS for its "Ground Saver" service to handle final residential delivery.
FedEx: Utilizes USPS for "SmartPost" (now FedEx Ground Economy) to deliver packages to final destinations.
DHL eCommerce: Relies heavily on the USPS for last-mile delivery of international and domestic e-commerce shipments.

Already knew that.  I estimate it down to 100,000 people they can't or won't service.  Obviously international is totally irrelevant, so thanks a bunch for including that.  I stand by my numbers and I see you don't have any numbers.  Thank you for playing.

The common denominator is "there's lot of flyover country that's more than 100 miles from one of their existing hubs".

Do that and the GOP will arrange it so you are paying their donors $200 a month to receive mail and $5 per first class stamp.  That's what it is always about.  1. Removing it from a taxpayer cost so the billionaires save money.  then 2. finding a way to make it so billionaires profit more from it on the backs of normal working class people.  This is the pattern, over and over again.

Also it is a nation, not a business.  There's a huge difference.

They’ re not allowed to close tiny money-losing post offices in low population areas that could just as well be served by drop boxes and convenience store or gas stationk that could provide space for a scale / stamp dispenser machine.

I like how you think son. One post office for every 100 square miles, so everyone ha one within ~5 miles of home.
And that means 1 post office for all of LA.
And 1 for NYC.
