> What the Bible Actually Says About War and Human Survival

With all the Iran/war talk lately, thought I'd share some scriptures from my Sunday service that hit different right now.

Luke 19:43,44 - Jesus foretold Jerusalem's destruction: 'Your enemies will build around you a fortification of pointed stakes and will encircle you and distress you from every side. They will dash you and your children within you to the ground, and they will not leave a stone upon a stone in you, because you did not discern the time of your being inspected.' That happened in 70 CE when the Romans leveled Jerusalem. Jesus predicted it 37 years in advance, down to the siege tactics.

Matthew 24:22 - 'Unless those days were cut short, no flesh would be saved; but on account of the chosen ones those days will be cut short.' This one is about a future great tribulation. The promise is that God won't let humanity wipe itself out. He'll intervene.

Revelation 6:1-8 - The four horsemen: White horse (false peace/conquest), red horse (war), black horse (famine), pale horse (death). Look around. Conquest, wars, food prices through the roof, death on a massive scale. These aren't random. They were foretold as signs of the last days.

John 1:29 - 'See, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!' After all that heavy prophecy, this is the hope. Jesus Christ as the solution. Not another war, not another politician, not another treaty. The Lamb.

The Bible has a track record. Jerusalem fell exactly as predicted. The horsemen are riding now. But the same book that got those predictions right also promises that God will step in before we destroy ourselves. That's the whole point.

Continuing from Sunday service, two more that fit the times:

2 Timothy 3:1-5 — 'But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, betrayers, headstrong, puffed up with pride, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, having an appearance of godliness but proving false to its power.'

Read that list again and tell me that doesn't describe 2026 perfectly. Social media narcissism, money worship, zero loyalty, everything for pleasure. Paul wrote that almost 2000 years ago and nailed it.

Matthew 13:30 — Jesus's wheat and weeds parable: 'Let both grow together until the harvest, and in the harvest season, I will tell the reapers: First collect the weeds and bind them in bundles to burn them up; then gather the wheat into my storehouse.'

The point? God isn't sorting people out right now. Wheat and weeds grow together for a while. But harvest time comes. That's where we're heading.

2 Peter 3:14 — 'Therefore, beloved ones, since you are awaiting these things, do your utmost to be found finally by him spotless and unblemished and in peace.'

After all the doom and gloom prophecy — wars, horsemen, moral collapse, harvest — this is the practical takeaway. You know it's coming. So what do you do? Live clean and be at peace. Don't panic. Don't spiral. Just be the kind of person you'd want to be when the music stops.
