President Donald Trump urged commercial vessels to continue sailing through the Strait of Hormuz despite escalating attacks on merchant shipping, saying shipowners should not be deterred by security risks in the world’s most important oil transit chokepoint.

“These ships should go through the Strait of Hormuz and show some guts,” Trump said in an interview with Fox News. “There’s nothing to be afraid of… they have no Navy, we sunk all their ships.”

Security data compiled by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) shows the scale of the deterioration. In its latest incident summary, the organization reported 13 incidents involving commercial vessels between February 28 and March 8, including 10 confirmed attacks and three reports of suspicious activity affecting ships operating in and around the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Gulf of Oman.

Anyone who knows anything about shipping knows it's all about insurance.

Nobody gives a fuq if 22 Filipinos, 5 Ukrainians, 3 Romos and a Bulgarian on a mangled hulk flying the flag of Malawi get cremated in a hellish firestorm.

The funniest part is oil already showed you the whole movie. It ripped to roughly 119-120 on Hormuz panic, then puked hard the second people started fantasizing about the US forcing the strait back open. Traders can larp. Insurers and shipowners still price reality. No tanker owner is risking a quarter-billion-dollar floating bomb because a Fox host discovered machismo.

Update: oil didn't puke as hard as expected. Strikes happened late Feb. Now 9 days into Operation Epic Fury and the pipeline is REAL. CA regular gas up /bin/zsh.55/gal (now .00), OK up /bin/zsh.35 (now .70). Crude futures soaring. Markets diving. Trump is now officially reviewing emergency options to curb prices. Insurance has re-priced the Hormuz risk upward, just posted minutes ago. The fantasy isn't over - it's being repriced in real-time by traders who can't ignore the actual physical risk anymore. The quarter-billion-dollar floating bomb does not accept hope.
