Americans live in the largest homes in the world, have more cars per capita than anyone else, and eat so much food that USA is also one of the fattest countries in the world.
The problem is that Americans think that massive gluttony & overconsumption is a "dignified existence".

Everyone wants a new mcmansion.
No one wants or has the ability to rebuild an older home.
I bought the home of the mayor's former side piece.
Built in 1948
Tongue and groove boards horizontally on every wall. Sheetrock over the tongue and groove.
You can drive a nail literally anywhere in the house.
First thing I did was rewire it completely.
Then, I replaced all the drain lines for the plumbing. There was plenty water pressure incoming so it wasnt worth doing them.
Removed the aerobic sewer system and tied into city lines.
Reshingled with architect triple thick shingles.
It has already doubled in value and is about to get started on a brand new hospital about 200 yards away.
I am hoping my home becomes an outpatient doctor's office or a McDonalds.
Either way, it should sell for about 4-5 times the price I bought it for.

It has also survived every hurricane since 1948.
It is the most solidly built home I have ever seen.
The wiring was so old that every receptacle was a 2 prong plug.
