Christmas is the rehearsal of sacrificing children to the prosperity gods.  This happens a few days after the winter solstice to celebrate the rebirth of the sun.

It began to see adoption in the Roman church in the second century, and gained widespread adoption in the third and fourth centuries.  This was done to bring pagans into the church.  The practice remains to this day.
